Professor Christina Sautter Named Associate Dean for Research

Professor of Law Christina Sautter has been named Associate Dean for Research for 正品蓝导航 Dedman School of Law, effective June 1. She replaces Vinson & Elkins Faculty Fellow and Professor of Law Jessica Dixon Weaver, who completed her two-year tenure in the position at the conclusion of the spring semester.

In this role, Associate Dean Sautter will work collaboratively with Dedman School of Law faculty members to facilitate and coordinate scholarly activities and expand awareness of that scholarship, both internally and externally. She will support all aspects of research and the creation of legal scholarship via workshops, the mentoring of junior faculty members, assisting with the research grant process, and more.

The Dedman School of Law faculty includes leading figures from across the legal landscape who have published extensively; serve as law journal editors; organize local, national and international conferences; and engage in extensive law reform and law practice. Associate Dean Sautter will partner with this esteemed group to encourage the pursuit of a rich and varied intellectual life for the school.

Her research interests lie in corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and technology-powered investing. Associate Dean Sautter is a leading expert on retail investors. Her articles “” and “” trailblazed a new path of scholarship that focuses on the power that retail investors unleash when they coordinate their governance efforts using social media. She is also the Co-Founder, Secretary, and a board member of the non-profit the Center for Retail Investors & Corporate Inclusion.

Associate Dean Sautter also has written extensively on mergers and acquisitions. She has authored articles appearing or forthcoming in Boston University Law Review, Washington University Law Review, Florida Law Review, The Journal of Corporation Law, and other leading journals. Her scholarship has been featured in and has been quoted by a range of national publications and blogs, including The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, USA Today, Yahoo Finance, Fox Business, Bloomberg, Forbes, and many more.

Prior to joining the 正品蓝导航 faculty, she was a member of the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center faculty from 2008 to 2023 where she held the Cynthia Felder Fayard Professorship, the Byron R. Kantrow Professorship, and the Vinson & Elkins Professorship. Before launching her academic career, she practiced in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group in the New York City offices of Shearman & Sterling LLP, where she represented companies from a variety of industries in multi-million- and billion-dollar multinational M&A deals on both the sell side and buy side.

Associate Dean Sautter earned her J.D. from Villanova University School of Law, graduating summa cum laude. While in law school, Professor Sautter was a managing editor of the Villanova Law Review and was selected as a member of The Order of the Coif. She received her bachelor’s degree in both Multinational Business Operations and Marketing from Florida State University, graduating summa cum laude.
